Why Rochdale

The big apps launch everywhere at once and belong nowhere. We’re doing the opposite: one town, done properly, before anywhere else. Rochdale has a real licensed private hire trade, real drivers who know its streets, and real people paying surge prices for the privilege of an algorithm in the middle.

Being local isn’t a marketing line — it’s the operating model. Drivers on Hail hold Rochdale Borough Council licences. Fares stay in drivers’ pockets, which means the money stays in town. And when something goes wrong, you talk to someone who knows the difference between Milnrow and Middleton.

What we believe

The fare belongs to the driver. Hail charges drivers a flat subscription for the software and takes 0% of ride money. We’d rather be a tool you pay for than a partner who takes a quarter of your work.

Prices should be agreed by people. A rider names what a trip is worth to them; a driver accepts it or counters. No meter, no surge, no black box deciding on behalf of both of you.

Safety is standard. Licensed drivers, verified documents, live trip sharing and one-tap SOS on every trip — for riders and drivers alike. None of it is a premium add-on.

Where we are right now

We’d rather tell you exactly where things stand than pretend to be bigger than we are:

• The apps are built — rider and driver — and in final on-the-road testing in Rochdale.
• Our operator licence application is in progress. We won’t take a single booking until it’s granted.
• The founding driver group is open — drivers joining now are first through onboarding and help shape the platform.
• No fake numbers. You won’t find invented driver counts or testimonials here. When we quote figures, they’re labelled and explained.
